Ok, after seeing several threads about F1 2002 over recent months, and after racing MRob and Optimo online last night, I think we need an Official F1 2002 and Mods Online Racing Thread. This will be a living, breathing post in this thread, with frequent updates. Check back here often for the latest info.F1 2002 is available now for about $10, since it's now an 'older' title. Amazon.com has F1 2002 for $9.99. You can order it there.

It's the basis for most of the current mods:GT Racing 2002Ferrari F355 ChallengeAlfa 147 CupBMW M3M3 ChallengeM3 LeagueF1 Turbo-eraF1 95 SeasonBP RacingSports Car Racing (Le Mans prototypes)Le Mans 93Le Mans 2002DTMEuropean Touring Car Championship (F1C 99-02)It's recently released successor, F1 Challenge 99-02, features improved graphics, sharper physics, and better AI. It also features the cars, teams, and tracks from four seasons spanning 1999-2002. F1C is available for about $25.For mods, downloads, FAQs, and technical supportFirst go to to download and install their host engine (F1 Race Search Tool). It makes finding/downloading/installing/hosting/chatting/joining/troubleshooting ALL the mods a snap. After that, feel free to check these sites:Use F1RST 2 or Instant Messaging to CoordinateMRob, Optimo, Count, and I figured out one way to find buds to race is by all of us using F1RST2 or a common Instant Messaging program (Yahoo IM).

When a fellow racer turns on the computer, IM him/her, decide on game name, start F1 2002, search for the server, and race! It's slower than using F1RST2, but it works. Some tips:For a private race, select 'Announce Game - NO' in the Create Race menu. That requires joiners to type in the Host's IP address, thereby keeping the game private. If you wanna race, just announce it here and invite folks to join you.

That'll bump the thread to the top of Off-Topic, folks will see it, and they'll join.Direct folks to F1RST2 or an Instant Messaging program ( YahooIM, ICQ, AIM, etc.) to coordinate. If you're not using F1RST2 yet, Yahoo IM works well.

It only takes five minutes to download, install, and register, plus it's SIMPLE. Conference in several parties into one chat session to coordinate the race setup, server IP, etc and then set it all up. That'll keep this thread and Bf.C from getting too garbaged up (Examples of which exist already.

See below: ).You can also use Bf.C Private Message (PM) to coordinate. It's a bit cumbersome, but will get the job done. Originally posted by M3wannaBSo lemme get this straight. These GT cars are just a mod for f1 2002 right? I'm not sure how all this works. I've been lookin at all the links from the first post on here and it seems like there's a lot of cool stuff like mini coopers and gt cars. Is this stuff that works with the 99-02 version of the game?

I just wanna race dammitAnyway if someone feels like holdin my hand through this so i can get setup with gt cars that'd be awesome. If not i'll figure it out in a couple months:12: OK, a few points:1. F1 2002 was released about 1 1/2 years ago. It's still available for very cheap ($10-$15). It's the basis for most of the current mods (GTR2002, M3 Challenge, Mini Coopers, Ferrari 360 Challenge, Alfa 147, Independent Oval Racing, F1 1995 Season, etc) and all the available tracks.2. F1 Challenge 99-02 is a new (2 months ago) release, INCOMPATIBLE with F1 2002.

As of Aug 4, 2003, THERE ARE FEW MODS (so far) for F1C 99-02, but folks are working on them as we speak.3. F1 2002 and F1C 99-02 DO NOT WORK WITH EACH OTHER. Example: If your buddy has F1 2002 or any of its mods, and you only have F1C 99-02, you CAN NOT race each other. Two different sims.4. There are many, many mods, additional tracks, add-on cars, and other tweaks, and there are many different sources, forums, and racing leagues addressing each.5. F1 Race Search Tool 2 is a ONE STOP SOURCE for ALL the available mods, tracks, cars, and tweaks for F1 2002 and F1C.

I SAY AGAIN,F1 Race Search Tool II is a great tool for chatting/finding/hosting/multiplayer setup/downloading/installing all the mods, tracks, cars, tweaks, and forums, and it works for F1C 99-02. I highly suggest downloading and using F1RST2.6. The F1 2002 / F1C community has grown tremendously. There are multitudinous (a lot of) mods and techniques for the game. It seems overwhelming unless you bite off a bit of it at a time.

All the information anyone needs can be found thru F1RST2 and the links contained therein. There's a lot of info that can only be digested thru dedicated browsing of the respective forums, trial and error, and studied determination.

It's a whole universe unto itself.7. The racing, mods, tracks, cars, and car setups can be as simple or as detailed as you like. Personally, I have honed my setups through vigorous study, detailed tweaking, and driving hundreds of laps (yes, HUNDREDS). For example, I've turned over 300 laps at Spa, Belgium, just in search of that last hundredth of a second. I have over 20 setups for Spa, each one an improvement over the previous. And that's just for the BMW-Williams FW24, in F1 2002.

I've only touched on my setups for GTR 2002. It's a limitless learning process, if you want it to be. It can also be as simple as sliding the adjustment sliders, if you want to get a quick start.8. Race car setup is an art and science itself, if you want to go beyond the simple slider adjustments.

I've attached a tutorial (in TEXT format) in a duplicate of this post on page 9 of this thread. PM me if you want the easy-to-read, formatted Word document and I'll email it to you. I use these techniques combined with in-game telemetry, experience and real-world concepts honed on real tracks in my M3 and racing kart to develop my simulator car setups.9.

The depth of the F1 2002 / F1C experience is no joke. It can be simple fun or dedicated league competition, and everything in between. Sometimes I drive full-length races (1 1/2 hours) with no driver aids to practice maintaining concentration under pressure.

It helps with my real world on track focus. Other times I just jump online and host or join a quick 10 lap race. Sometimes I spend hours at a time driving, tweaking, and re-driving setups, testing, comparing telemetry, testing, testing. Other times I kick back with a bag of popcorn and notepad and watch the replay of a full-length race, bookmarking the highlights and critiquing my performance.

Sometimes I get online with buds and we just clown around on the track. It's all up to you.10. Welcome to the wide, wide world of F1 2002 / F1C 99-02 sim racing. F1RST2 is your road atlas.

The forums and links therein are your roadmaps. Your fellow racers are your occasional tour guides.TIPS.

Hey man, I'm ready to start putting in some time behind the wheel on this game. Ive read all through your thread on it and it SUPER helpful. One thing that would help me a shit load is some sort of HUD mod. Ya know how in some racing games you can see a mintiature map of the track, and your position on it, in like the top right corner or somthing? I cant find this as an option in this game, and its the first one ive EVER owned that doesnt have it.

It would definitely help me learn braking points much faster, and ultimately the entire track, with MUCH less frustration. So if you're aware of this being in an game option, lemme know how to turn it on, or if theres a mod out there lemme know where i can get it.If theres no such thing, a simple 'you're shit outta luck there buddy' will be plenty of a response. ThnxYou gotta learn the track, just like in real life. But, here are a coupla tips on learning the track.1. Study the circuit diagrams and driver descriptions from the Formula 1 websites. Try:I used to print out the ciruit diagram and driver description and have it handy while learning each circuit. You'll be surprised how F1 2002 and F1C are accurate and true to the real-world descriptions and car performance.2.

Watch an in-game AI driver drive around the track with the HUD info in view. Note the AI braking points, racing line, speed, and gear selection.Do this by parking your car off the track after starting a race. Then switch views to the race leader and watch its technique using the swingman, onboard, or cockpit camera. You can even use the circuit diagram and driver descriptions mentioned above to follow along.3. Use the swingman camera while you drive practice laps to learn the track layout.

Personally, I use this view rarely and only while learning circuits because there is a performance lag between my steering inputs and the car response. I usually drive using the cockpit view, with mirrors, wheel, etc.-.UPDATES.10 Dec 2003 - Racesims Revolution has released their European Touring Car Championship mod (ETCC2003) for F1 Challenge 99-02.From the website. The ETCC 2003 Mod is a free mod for 'F1 Challenge 99-02' published by EASports.

The ETCC 2003 Mod includes all cars and drivers from the 2003 season of the European Touring Cars Championship (ETCC) and it was designed with the aim of creating the most realistic touring car racing simulation currently possible. All cars have been modeled with great attention to detail with unique cockpits and steering wheels for each car model. The ETCC 2003 Mod was designed with the sim-racer in mind, who wants to enjoy close racing as it can be seen in real ETCC races with a realistic driving and physics model and realistic AI behaviour.
